THE HAND-OVER AND OPENING CEREMONY OF MAYYU WUNTHA MONASTIC PRIMARY SCHOOL IN SHWE PYI THA TOWNSHIP, YANGON REGION CONSTRUCTED UNDER THE SCHEME OF THE JAPANESE GOVERNMENT’S GRANT ASSISTANCE FOR GRASS-ROOTS HUMAN SECURITY PROJECTS

The Government of Japan, under its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme, granted US$99,605 for a humanitarian program entitled “The Project for Construction of Mayyu Wuntha Monastic Primary School in Shwe Pyi Tha Township, Yangon Region”. The hand-over and opening ceremony of this Monastic Primary School was held on March 13, 2013 at the project site in Shwe Pyi Tha Township.

Mr. Masahiro FUJIKAWA, the Second Secretary of the Embassy of Japan together with the Yangon Region Hluttaw Representative U Maung Maung Win, Shwe Pyi Tha Township Administrator U Aung Moe Oo, Chief Monk Buddanta Tayzeinda, Chairman of School Construction Committee U Thein Win and members and town elders attended the ceremony.

The Mayyu Wuntha Monastic Primary School situated in Ward No.11 of Shwe Pyi Tha Township and it firstly opened in 1993 for 25 children of poor families who cannot afford to attend the government schools. At present, 454 students are learning their lessons from 12 teachers by using monastic building and temporary school building but the space is very tight. Although the Chief Monk Sayadaw and the School Management Committee members have been seeking to construct a new school building to solve the space problem, they have been facing financial difficulties.

Under such circumstance, the Government of Japan has decided to provide funding for the construction of a two storied RC school building with four classrooms, toilets, walkway and school furniture for Mayyu Wuntha Monastic Primary School in Shwe Pyi Tha Township through its (GGP) Scheme. It is expected that this assistance will provide the students with better learning and sanitation environment and further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
