The Government of Japan, under its Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme, granted US$84,481for a humanitarian program entitled “The Project for Construction of ChaungZauk Village Branch High School in Thanlyin Township, Yangon Region.”The hand-over and opening ceremony of ChaungZauk Village Branch High Schoolwas held on April 5, 2013.
Ms. Tokunaga, Third Secretary of Embassy of Japan to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Chairman U Win Hlaing and members of the School Construction Committeetogether with Village Elders attended the said ceremony.
ChaungZauk Village Branch High School is located at ChaungZauk Village in the eastern part of Thanlyin Township. In 1957, it was first openedas primary school and was upgraded to a basic education middle school in 1990, and to a basic education branch high school in 2003 respectively. As students who finished primary and middle school from neighboring villages attended the ChaungZauk Village Branch High School, the numbers of students are increasing substantially. As a result, the school building including its furniture and toilets, became insufficient to accommodate the increasing number of students.
Undersuch circumstances, the Government of Japan has decided to provide fundingfor construction of a two-storey reinforced concrete school building, which comprises of 4 classrooms, toilets, school furniture and walk way through its GGP scheme. It is expected that this assistance will provide a better learning and sanitation environment and further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
