The hand-over and opening ceremonies of the Japanese Government’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects for Construction of two monastic Middle Schools in Tanintharyi Region

The Government of Japan, under its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects(GGP) Scheme, granted US$81,520 and US$91,048 respectively for humanitarian programs entitled “The Project for Construction of Pakokku Monastic Middle School in Dawei and Nat Maw Monastic Middle School in Myeik” in the Fiscal Year 2012.The hand-over and opening ceremonies of those two monastic Middle School were held at the respective schools in Dawei and Myeik on June 24 and 25, 2013 respectively.

Mr.Hideaki MATSUO, Counsellor of the Embassy of Japan to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, attended the ceremonies held in Dawei and Myeik Townships. At the Pakokku Monastic Middle School in Dawei, U Win Swe, Minister for Electric Power and Industry of Thanintharyi Region, Chief Monk Sayadaw U Nandawuntha, School Construction Committee Chairman U Kyaw Soe and committee members together with the township elders attended the ceremony and at the Nat Maw Monastic Middle School in Myeik, Chief Monk Sayadaw Baddana Nyannithara, School Construction Committee Chairman U Kyaw Win, members of the School Construction Committee and township elders attended the ceremony respectively.

Both monastic schools were opened for the children from under privileged families and not able to attend the government schools. The number of students at each school have been gradually increasing in every academic year; the school buildings were not adequate for the students so that they have to learn their lessons in inadequate environment.

The Government of Japan has decided to provide funding for construction of a two storeyed R.C. school building each, toilets and school furniture for above two monastic Middle Schools through its GGP Scheme in order to provide better learning environment. Also the assistance is to strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
