
1. On 6th August (Tuesday), the Government of Japan decided to extend emergency relief goods (blankets and sleeping pads) worth 13million JPY to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), in response to the request for assistance for flood damage by the Government of the country.
2. Myanmar has been hit by heavy rain since 27th July, which caused floods mainly in the southern region, destroying over 4,000 houses, forcing many people to evacuate. According to the Myanmar Government (as of 5th August), 6 people were reported dead and the total number of those affected could be around 40,000.
3. Upon the request by the Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, the Government of Japan decided to extend emergency assistance from a humanitarian point of view for the victims and in light of long-term friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
