THE JAPANESE GOVERNMENT’S GRANT ASSISTANCE FOR FOUR GRASS-ROOTS HUMAN SECURITY RPOJECTS FOR CONSTRUCTION OF SCHOOLS IN AYEYARWADY REGION, YANGON REGION AND CHIN STATE

The Government of Japan, under its Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects(GGP) Scheme, has decided to provide the grant amounting to US$470,799 to four projects listed below.
  • (1) The Project for Construction of Ah Htet Paykone Village Basic Education Branch High School in Wakema Township, Ayeyarwady Region, US$ 120,955
  • (2) The Project for Construction of Nyaunggu Village Basic Education High School in Wakema Township, Ayeyarwady Region, US$ 120,755
  • (3) The Project for Construction of Khanaung Chaungwa Village Basic Education Middle School in Dala Township, Yangon Region, US$ 107,150
  • (4) The Project for Construction of Five Schools in Mindat Township, Chin State, US$ 121,939
H.E. Mr. Mikio NUMATA, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and Chairman of each Construction Committee signed the grant contracts on October 16, 2013.
These schools are not able to provide good learning environment for the students due to insufficient classrooms and deteriorated buildings. Therefore, the school committees had been seeking financial support to construct new school buildings to improve their current situations. It is expected that these projects will provide more than 2,860 students at eight needy schools with better learning and sanitation environment.
The Government of Japan has helped various grass-roots projects in Myanmar and 271 schools have been improved under GGP scheme counting from 1998. It is further expected to strengthen existing friendly relation between Japan and Myanmar through implementation of those projects.
