THE JAPANESE GOVERNMENT’S GRANT ASSISTANCE FOR THREE GRASS-ROOTS HUMAN SECURITY RPOJECTS FOR CONSTRUCTION OF SCHOOLS IN CHIN STATE, AYEYARWADY REGION AND KAYAH STATE

The Government of Japan, under its Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme, has decided to provide the grant amounting to US$461,105 to three projects listed below.


    (1) The Project for Construction of No.1 Basic Education High School in Matupi Township, Chin State, US$ 114,015

    (2) The Project for Construction of Thingangon Village Basic Education High School in Ngaputaw Township, Ayeyarwady Region, US$ 121,450

    (3) The Project for Construction of Thay Su Le Village Basic Education Branch High School in De Maw So Township, Kayah State, US$ 225,640


H.E. Mr. Mikio NUMATA, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and Chairman of each School Construction Committee signed the grant contracts on October 21, 2013.


These schools are not able to provide good learning environment for the students due to insufficient classrooms and deteriorated buildings. Therefore, the school committees had been seeking financial support to construct new school buildings to improve their current situations. It is expected that these projects will provide about 3,577 students at three needy schools with better learning and sanitation environment.


The Government of Japan has helped various grass-roots projects in Myanmar and 271 schools have been improved under GGP scheme counting from 1998. It is further expected to strengthen existing friendly relation between Japan and Myanmar through implementation of those projects.
