HAND-OVER AND OPENING CEREMONY OF THE JAPANESE GOVERNMENT’S GRANT ASSISTANCE FOR GRASS-ROOTS HUMAN SECURITY PROJECTS FOR “THE PROJECT FOR CONSTRUCTION OF THAYARGON VILLAGE BRANCH HIGH SCHOOL IN HMAWBI TOWNSHIP, YANGON REGION”
November 22, 2013
The Government of Japan, under its Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme, has extended the assistance of US$ 93,424 for humanitarian assistance program entitled “The Project for Construction of Thayargon Village Branch High School in Yangon Region”.
The hand-over and opening ceremony was held at the said Thayargon Village Branch High School in Yangon Region on November 22, 2013. The ceremony was attended by Ms. Fumie TOKUNAGA, Third Secretary of the Embassy of Japan, U Min Zaw, Director of Department of Basic Education No.3, U Maung Maung Toe, Northern District Education Officer and School Building Construction Committee members and local people.
The Primary School first opened at Thayargon Village in 1954 and then was upgraded to a Middle School in 1990. In 2007, the school was upgraded again to a High School (Branch). However, as the number of students increased to more than 550, the school faced shortage of classrooms.
Under such circumstances, the Government of Japan provided funding for the construction of one storeyed RC school building with 3 classrooms, toilets, and school furniture for Thayargon Village Branch High School in Hmawbi Township through its GGP Scheme. The numbers of schools built under GGP scheme were 271 schools since 1998. It is expected that this assistance will provide the students with better learning and sanitation environment and further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
