Hand-over and Opening Ceremony of Moekaung Monastic Middle School and Tike Kyaung Monastic Primary School in Myingyan Township, Mandalay Region, through Japan’s Grass-Roots Assistance

The hand-over and opening ceremonies of Moekaung Monastic Middle School and Tike Kyaung Monastic Primary School in Myingyan Township in Mandalay Region took place on December 14, 2013 respectively. Mr. Toshio YAMAMOTO, Minister-Counselor of the Embassy of Japan, respective committee chairmen and committee members of each school construction project and students and local residents attendee these ceremonies.
These two monastic schools were opened to provide free schooling and textbooks for the children from poor families. In these villages, residents cannot afford to children’s education because of struggles for their daily livelihood. Since they need to help their parents in farming, the drop-out rate of children from the two villages is very high.
At the ceremony, Mr. Yamamoto, minister-counselor asked for the audience two things; the first one is for the students to graduate from this monastic school at least, and the second one is to take care the maintenance of the school building for long-term utilization. After the speech, Chief Monk Sayadaws of two monastic schools mentioned that education is a crucial link to the future of children. He reiterated the importance of education and said that educated persons can go anywhere in the world. He also urged the parents to cooperate and concentrate on the building of brighter future of the children.
The Japanese Government granted USD89,785 for Tike Kyaung Monastic Primary School and USD90,489 for Moekaung Monastic Middle School. The Government of Japan intends to provide this kind of grassroots grant assistance in education sector to support the people in this country. It is expected that this assistance will further strengthen existing friendly relation between Japan and Myanmar.
