More School from Japan at Salin in Magway Region

The Government of Japan, under its Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects(GGP) Scheme, has extended the assistance of US$140,897 for construction of Salin Basic Education Middle School in Salin Township, Magway Region as a humanitarian assistance program in 2012.
The grand hand-over and opening ceremony of new three storey RC building of Salin Basic Education Middle School was held at the school on February 1, 2014 and H.E. Dr. Kan Zaw, Union Minister for National Planning and Economic Development, H.E. Mr. Mikio NUMATA, Ambassador of Japan, Dr. San Lwin, Deputy Minister for Education, U Paik Htwe, Deputy Minister for Information, Dr.U Maung Maung Htay, Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs, U Aung Kyaw Min, Minister of Social Affairs of Magway Region together with the representitives of Amyotha Hluttaw and the representitives of Magway Region Hluttaw, Township Administrative Authorities, School Construction Committee members, parents and students of the school attended the said ceremony.
The Salin Basic Education Middle School was recently promoted into branch high school in 2013 by the Ministry of Education and about 900 students are studying at school in this academic year. It is expected that the students of the school will benefit from the new three-storeyed school building and school furniture provided by the Japanese Grant Assistance.
After the hand-over ceremony, H.E. Mr. Mikio NUMATA, Ambassador of Japan and Chairman of Salin Basic Education High School Construction Committee signed the Grant Contract for construction of two storey RC school building with 12 classrooms including toilets, water supply system and school furniture. Total granted amount is US$267,716. About 3,000 students of Salin Basic Education High School will benefit from better learning and sanitation environment. The signing ceremony was also witnessed by the Union Minister Dr. Kan Zaw and Deputy Ministers.
Japan has built 279 schools under the GGP scheme since 1993. It is expected that these assistance will provide better learning and sanitation environment for the students of those two schools in need in Salin and further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
