THE JAPANESE GOVERNMENT GRANTS US $899,665 FOR FOUR GRASS-ROOTS HUMAN SECURITY PROJECTS IN TANINTHARI REGION, BAGO REGION AND KACHIN STATE
H.E. Mr. Mikio NUMATA, Ambassador of the Embassy of Japan and Chairmen of the Committees from State and Region concerned, signed the grant contracts today for four projects, under its Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme, totaling US$899,665 as listed below.
    • 1. The Project for Construction of Madaukkalay Basic Education Primary School in Shwekyin Township, Bago Region (US$121,937)
    • 2. The Project for Construction of No.1 Basic Education High School in Bamaw Township, Kachin State (US$395,895)
    • 3. The Project for Construction of Thabut Village Basic Education High School in Myeik Township, Taninthari Region (US$216,576)
    • 4. The Project for Construction of Nyin Htwe Village Basic Education High School in Ye Phyu Township, Taninthari Region (US$165,257)
The four school projects in Shwekyin Tonwship in Bago Region, Bamaw Township in Kachin State and Myeik Township and Ye Phyu Township in Taninthari Region will benefit for 4,480 students, who are now studying under insufficient learning environment in old school buildings. The fund provided by the Government of Japan will be used for constructing new R.C building with sufficient classrooms, toilets and provision of school furniture.
The Government of Japan has helped 663 various grass-roots projects in Myanmar under this GGP scheme since 1993, and among them, 295 education projects are included. It is expected that these assistance will further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
