
JAPAN GRANTS US$773,483 FOR FIVE PROJECTS IN SHAN STATE AND KAYAH STATE

The Japanese Government, under its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme, has extended the assistance of US$773,483 for five humanitarian assistance programs entitled:1. “The Project for Extension of Pe Kon Township Hospital in Shan State.” (US$218,915)
2. “The Project for Construction of Water Treatment and Water Supply System in Bawlakhe Township, Kayah State.” (US$109,413)
3. “The Project for Construction of Thay Su Le Village Basic Edcuation Branch High School in De Maw So Township, Kayah State.” (US$225,640)
4. “The Project for Construction of Agricultural Produce Transport Road between Noe Koe Ywar Ma Village and Noe Koe San Pya Village in Loikaw Township, Kayah State.” (US$120,907)
5. “The Project for Renovation and Upgrading of Naung Lone Dam in Loikaw Township, Kayah State.” (US$98,608)
Pe Kon Township Hospital
The handover and opening ceremony of the newly extended Pe Kon Township Hospital took place in Pe Kon Township, Shan State on 28th January 2015. In the ceremony, Mr. Masahiro FUJIKAWA, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Japan, U Lawrence, Minister for Kayan National Affairs, Dr. Than Htut, Shan State Health Director, Daw Aye Cho Sein, Pe Kon Township Pyittu Hluttaw Representative, U Moe Khaing Tun, Pe Kon Township Administrator, Pe Kon Township Hospital Medical Superintendent, patients, committee chairman, members of the construction project, and local residents attended.
Pe Kone Township Hospital is located in Pe Kon Township, southern Shan state. When diarrhea and dysentery outbreaks occurred in last three consecutive years, the township hospital was unable to provide patients with sufficient inpatient ward capacity. Under such circumstance, the Government of Japan, under its GGP scheme, supported two wards extension: one male ward and one childrens’ ward.
Bawlakhe Water Supply System And Thay Su Le Village High School
The handover and opening ceremonies of the Water Treatment and Water Supply System in Bawlakhe Township and Thay Su Le Village Basic Education Branch High School in De Maw So Township took place in the respective Townships in Kayah State on 29th January 2015. At the ceremony for the Bawlakhe Water Supply System, Mr. Masahiro FUJIKAWA, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Japan, U Aung Naing Oo, Kayah State Minister for Construction, U Chit Hla, Kayah State Minister for Development Affair, Bawlakhe Township Administrator, Executive Officer of Bawlakhe Township Development Affairs Department, committee chairman, members of the construction project and local residents attended.
Around 2,515 residents of Bawlakhe Township in Kayah State who have been suffering from water shortage will benefit from the water treatment and water supply system funded by the Government of Japan, under its GGP scheme. The fund had been used to construct the whole water treatment and water supply system in Bawlakhe Township including necessary pipeline systems and water purification facilities.
Thay Su Le Village Basic Education Branch High School is situated in De Maw So Township, Kayah State. One of the buildings was wooden built in 1965, and was decayed and damaged. Also since the school was upgraded to branch high school in the 2013-2014 academic year, student enrollment increased. Therefore, the school committee planned to build a temporary bamboo house to extend classrooms for Grade 10 and Grade 11 students. Under such circumstances, the Government of Japan, under its GGP scheme, supported construction of a two-storey RC building with lavatories and full furniture. The project will benefit a total of 652 students.
At the ceremony for the school, Mr. Masahiro FUJIKAWA, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Japan, U Sein Oo, Minister of Burmese National Affairs, U Poe Reh Yan Aung, Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Daw Thit Thit Swe, Kayah State Education Director, U Khun Htet, Loikaw Township Education Officer, U Tin Hlaing, De Maw So Township Administrator, teachers, students, committee chairman, committee members of the construction project, and local residents attended.
Noe Koe Road And Naung Lone Dam
The handover and opening ceremonies for the new Agricultural Produce Transport Road between Noe Koe Ywar Ma Village and Noe Koe San Pya Village, as well as the upgraded Naung Lone Dam took place in Loikaw Township, Kayah State on 30th January 2015. At the ceremonies, Mr. Masahiro FUJIKAWA, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Japan, U Khin Maung Oo, Kayah State Chief Minister, U Poe Reh Yan Aung, Kayah State Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, U Koe Reh, Kayah State Minister of Socail Affairs, committee chairman and members of the construction project, and local residents attended.
Noe Koe San Pya and Noe Koe Ywar Ma villages are surrounded by paddy fields near Loikaw Township, Kayah State. The Agricultural Produce Transport Road between the two villages will allow farmers from nearby villages to transport their agricultural products to the markets. Furthermore, this road enables students to go to school safely.
Naung Lone Dam, situated in Htee Se Khar village tract, Loikaw Township, Kayah State, was not effectively utilized. In this project, Naung Lone Dam was renovated and upgraded to increase its storage capacity, so that it can supply irrigation water for paddy land of up to 420 acres and domestic water for the nearby 7 villages. The Government of Japan has assisted 710 various grass-roots projects in Myanmar under the GGP scheme since 1993, the number consisting of 324 education projects, 181 healthcare projects, 136 public welfare and environment projects, 33 infrastructure projects and 36 other projects. It is anticipated that these assistances will further strengthen the existing friendly relations between Myanmar and Japan.
