
JAPAN GRANTS US$507,094 FOR FOUR PROJECTS IN KANPETLET, MINDAT AND MATUPI TOWNSHIP, CHIN STATE

The Japanese Government, under its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme, has extended the assistance of US$507,094 for four humanitarian assistance programs entitled:
1. “The Project for Construction of Kyindwe Village Basic Education High School in Kanpetlet Township, Chin State” (US$ 153,379)
2. “The Project for Construction of Five Schools in Mindat Township, Chin State” (US$ 121,939)
3. “The Project for Construction of No.1 Basic Education High School in Matupi Township, Chin State” (US$ 114,015)
4. “The Project for Upgrading Medical Facilities in Matupi Township, Chin State” (US$ 117,761)
The handover and opening ceremonies of the above four projects took place in Kanpetlet, Mindat and Matupi Townships, Chin State on 3rd, 4th and 5th February 2015 respectively. In the ceremonies of Kyindwe school and Mindat schools, Mr. Kei MAEDA, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Japan, Dr. Ba Maung, Minister for Social Welfare of Chin State, District and Township Administrators, District and Township Education Officers, Township Medical Superintendent, teachers and students, respective committee chairmen, committee members of the construction projects, and local residents attended. In the ceremonies of Matupi school and Matupi hospital, Mr. Kei MAEDA, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Japan, U Ohn Lwin, Chin State Hluttaw Deputy Speaker, Dr. Ba Maung, Minister for Social Welfare of Chin State, District and Township Administrators, District and Township Education Officers, Township Medical Superintendent, teachers and students, respective committee chairmen, committee members of the construction projects, and local residents attended.
491 students from Kyindwe Village Basic Education High School in Kanpetlet Township, 295 students from five schools in Mindat Township and 1,840 students from No.1 Basic Education High School in Matupi Township, who had insufficient school furniture and were learning in outdated school buildings, will directly benefit from the projects.
52,491 local ethnic people from Matupi Township, who were facing shortage of medical equipment and hospital water supply, will benefit from the provision of medical equipment and assistance towards construction of a hospital water supply system.
The Government of Japan has assisted 710 various grass-roots projects in Myanmar under the GGP scheme since 1993. The number consisting of 324 education projects, 181 healthcare projects, 136 public welfare and environment projects, 33 infrastructure projects and 36 other projects. It is anticipated that these assistances will further strengthen the existing friendly relations between Myanmar and Japan.
