
JAPAN GRANTS US$11,487 FOR FIVE FIRE ENGINES

The Japanese Government, under its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme, has extended assistance of US$11,487 for the cost of shipping five fire engines donated by the local governments in Saitama Prefecture, Tochigi Prefecture, Ibaraki Prefecture and Chiba Prefecture of Japan through the Japan-Myanmar Political and Economic Development Association for “the Project for Strengthening of Myanmar Fire Services Department”.
The handover ceremony of the project took place in the Embassy of Japan, Yangon on 11th February, 2015. H.E. Mr. Tateshi HIGUCHI, Ambassador of Japan, U Myat Thu, Deputy Director General for Myanmar Fire Services Department (MFSD), U Aung Kyaw Myint, Director for Myanmar Fire Services Department, U Tin Min and U Ye Min Thwe, Deputy Directors for Myanmar Fire Services Department attended the ceremony.
The life-saving activities of the MFSD in Mandalay Region and Mon State will be more effective through the implementation of the project. The MFSD will be able to respond quickly and effectively in case of disasters utilizing the vehicles. This is expected to be of great assistance in creating a safe living environment for the people and contribute to the development of Myanmar.
The Government of Japan has assisted 710 various grass-roots projects in Myanmar under the GGP scheme since 1993. The number consisting of 324 education projects, 181 healthcare projects, 136 public welfare and environment projects, 33 infrastructure projects and 36 other projects. It is anticipated that these assistances will further strengthen the existing friendly relations between Myanmar and Japan.
