
JAPAN GRANTS US$113,365 FOR A SCHOOL IN PANTANAW TOWNSHIP, AYEYARWADY REGION

The Japanese Government, under its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme, has extended assistance of US$113,365 for “The Project for Construction of Kyunkyar Village Basic Education Branch High School in Pantanaw Township, Ayeyarwady Region”.
The handover and opening ceremony of the project took place in Kyunkyar Village, Pantanaw Township, Ayeyarwady Region on 8th April 2015. Mr. Masahiro FUJIKAWA, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Japan, U Saw Mya Thein, Ayeyarwady Region Minister for Electric Power and Industry, U Ambrose, Deputy Director of Ayeyarwady Region Education Department, committee chairman, committee members of the construction project, and local residents attended the ceremony for the project.
There weren’t enough classrooms at the Kyunkyar Village Basic Education Branch High School in Pantanaw Township, Ayeyarwady Region, and the classes were separated into morning classes for Grade 1 to Grade 5 and evening classes for Grade 6 to Grade 9. Under such circumstances, the Government of Japan, under its GGP scheme, supported a two-storey Reinforced Cement Concrete (R.C.C) building with full furniture and lavatories. The project will benefit 530 ethnic Karen students.
The Government of Japan has assisted 726 various grass-roots projects in Myanmar under the GGP scheme since 1993: the number consisting of 328 education projects, 192 healthcare projects, 138 public welfare and environment projects, 33 infrastructure projects and 35 other projects. It is anticipated that these assistances will further strengthen the existing friendly relations between Myanmar and Japan.
