The Japanese Government, under its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme, has extended assistance of US$539,802 for three humanitarian assistance programs;

3. “The Project for Construction of Shawtawmaw Village Basic Education Post Primary School in Kyun Zu Township, Tanintharyi Region” (US$157,969)
The handover and opening ceremonies of the three projects took place in Ye Phyu Township, Myeik Township and Kyun Zu Township, Tanintharyi Region on 24th, 25th and 26th April 2015 respectively. Mr. Katsuyuki MATSUOKA, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Japan, Tanintharyi Region Minister for Forestry and Mines U Tin Soe, Tanintharyi Region Minister for Transport Dr. Kyaw Hsan, Tanintharyi Region Director for Department of Education U Tun Yi, District Education Officer, Township Education Officers, committee chairmen, committee members of the construction projects, and local residents attended the ceremonies for the projects.
Ye Phyu Township, Myeik Township and Kyun Zu Township are situated within Tanintharyi Region which is the southernmost region of Myanmar. The school building in Nyin Htwe school in Ye Phyu Township was outdated as well missing some necessary furniture. Under such conditions, the Government of Japan, under its GGP scheme, supported construction of a two-storey school building with full furniture. The project will benefit 502 students of the school.
Thabut Basic Education High School is situated in Myeik Township, Tanintharyi Region. The school building structure was dangerous because the structure was not strong as well as there being not enough classrooms. Under such conditions, the Government of Japan, under its GGP scheme, supported construction of a two-storey school building with full furniture, lavatories and walkway. The project will benefit 1,196 students of the school.
Shawtawmaw Basic Education Post Primary School is situated in Kyun Zu Township, Tanintharyi Region. The two school buildings were in bad condition; there were holes in the galvanized iron roof and students easily got wet on rainy days without window shutters. Under such conditions, the Government of Japan, under its GGP scheme, supported construction of a one-storey school building with full furniture and lavatories.
The Government of Japan has assisted 726 various grass-roots projects in Myanmar under the GGP scheme since 1993: the number consisting of 328 education projects, 192 healthcare projects, 138 public welfare and environment projects, 33 infrastructure projects and 35 other projects. It is anticipated that these assistances will further strengthen the existing friendly relations between Myanmar and Japan.
