May 26, 2015
The Japanese Government, under its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme, has granted US$116,644 for a humanitarian assistance program entitled “The Project for Construction of Moe Ganein Basic Education Branch Middle School in Kawa Township, Bago Region.”

The handover and opening ceremony of the school took place in Moe Ganein Village, Kawa Township, Bago Region on 26th May 2015. Mr. Kazuyoshi SUZUKI, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Japan, U Htay Win, Bago Region Director for Education Department, U Ye Lwin, Bago District Education Officer, Daw Khin Mar Yee, Kawa Township Education Officer, U Soe Than, Kawa Township Administrator, governmental officials, Committee Chairman, committee members of the construction project, and local residents attended the ceremony.

The two school buildings of Moe Ganein Basic Education Branch Middle School could not fulfill the classroom needs of the increasing students. Due to insufficient number of classrooms, the students had to study in very congested classrooms. Under such circumstances, the Japanese Government, under its GGP scheme, provided funding for construction of a two-storey R.C.C building with 6 classrooms and full furniture. The project will benefit 613 students of the school.

The Government of Japan has assisted 726 various grass-roots projects in Myanmar under the GGP scheme since 1993; the number consisting of 328 education projects, 192 healthcare projects, 138 public welfare and environment projects, 33 infrastructure projects and 35 other projects. It is anticipated that these assistances will further strengthen the existing friendly relations between Myanmar and Japan.
