The Japanese Government, under its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme, has granted US$110,587 for a humanitarian assistance programs entitled “The Project for Construction of Kyungale Village Water Supply System in Kawthmu Township, Yangon Region”.

The handover and opening ceremony of the project took place in Kawthmu Township, Yangon Region on 20th July 2015. Mr. Yuhei MURAKAMI, Official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, Committee Chairman, committee members of the construction project, and local residents attended the ceremony.

The villagers in Kyungale Village had to walk 20 minutes to another village to fetch water in the dry season. Under such circumstance, the Japanese Government, under its GGP scheme, provided funding for construction of a water pond with water supply pipelines and brick tanks, solar centrifugal pump, fence and signboards. The project will benefit 400 villagers of 74 households of the village.

The Government of Japan has assisted 727 various grass-roots projects in Myanmar under the GGP scheme since 1993; the number consisting of 328 education projects, 192 healthcare projects, 138 public welfare and environment projects, 34 infrastructure projects and 35 other projects. It is anticipated that these assistances will further strengthen the existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
