
JAPAN GRANTS US$186,632 FOR A SCHOOL IN MEIKTILA TOWNSHIP, MANDALAY REGION

The Japanese Government, under its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme, has granted US$186,632 for a humanitarian assistance program entitled “The Project for Construction of Ah Lel Ywa Basic Education Branch High School in Meiktila Township, Mandalay Region.”The handover and opening ceremony of the school took place in Meiktila Township, Mandalay Region on 31st July 2015. H.E. Mr. Tateshi HIGUCHI, Ambassador of Japan to Myanmar, H.E. U Win Shein, Union Minister for Finance, Dr. Zaw Min Aung, Union Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Lin Aung, Union Deputy Minister for Finance, government officials, Committee Chairman, committee members of the construction project, and local residents attended the ceremony.
The school buildings of Ah Lel Ywa Basic Education Branch High School could not fulfill demands for classrooms due to increasing number of students. Under such circumstances, the Japanese Government, under its GGP scheme, provided funding for construction of a two-storey R.C.C building with 8 classrooms with full furniture, lavatories and elevated tank. The project will benefit 391 students of the school.
The Government of Japan has assisted 727 various grass-roots projects in Myanmar under the GGP scheme since 1993; the number consisting of 328 education projects, 192 healthcare projects, 138 public welfare and environment projects, 34 infrastructure projects and 35 other projects. It is anticipated that these assistances will further strengthen the existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
