H.E. Mr. Tateshi HIGUCHI, Ambassador of Japan to Myanmar, and Chairman of the Committee from the region concerned, signed the grant contract of US$188,794 for “The Project for Construction of Inn Win Basic Education Primary School in Hinthada Township, Ayeyarwady Region” under Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme.
The Inn Win school buildings in Hinthada Township, Ayeyarwady Region are outdated. The classrooms have no partition and the students have to study in very congested rooms. The roofs of the buildings are damaged and do not have ceilings so the students get soaked when it rains. The school is going to be upgraded to a post primary school this year, and more classrooms are needed. Under such circumstances, the Japanese Government, under its GGP scheme, will support construction of a two-storey R.C.C building with full furniture, walkway and lavatories. It is expected that the project will benefit 294 students of the school.
The Government of Japan has assisted 728 various grass-roots projects in Myanmar under the GGP scheme since 1993; the number consisting of 329 education projects, 192 healthcare projects, 138 public welfare and environment projects, 34 infrastructure projects and 35 other projects. It is anticipated that these assistances will further strengthen the existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
