H.E. Mr. Tateshi HIGUCHI, Ambassador of Japan to Myanmar, and Chairman of Kya Khet Chaung Village School Construction Committee, signed the grant contract of US$153,095 for “The Project for Construction of Kya Khet Chaung Village Basic Education Branch High School in Kyar Inn Seik Gyi Township, Kayin State” under Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme.
Kya Khet Chaung Village Basic Education Branch High School is located in Kyar Inn Seik Gyi Township, Kayin State. The school buildings cannot fulfill classroom needs for the large number of students. Grade 6, 7 and 9 students have to study in a temporary school building, which has a roof, but no walls. Under such circumstances, the Japanese Government, under its GGP scheme, will support construction of a two-storey R.C.C building with 8 classrooms and full furniture. It is expected that the project will benefit 654 ethnic students of Karen and Mon at the school.
The Government of Japan has assisted 729 various grass-roots projects in Myanmar under the GGP scheme since 1993; the number consists of 330 education projects, 192 healthcare projects, 138 public welfare and environment projects, 34 infrastructure projects and 35 other projects. It is anticipated that these assistances will further strengthen the existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
