
Japan Grants US$13.6 million for The “Programme for Rehabilitation and Reconstruction of Schools in Flood and landslide Affected Areas”

1. On Friday, 13 November, H.E. Mr. Tateshi Higuchi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, and H.E. Daw Lei Lei Thein, Deputy Minister for National Planning and Economic Development of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, exchanged notes in Nay Pyi Taw concerning grant aid for the “Programme for Rehabilitation and Reconstruction of Schools in Flood and landslide Affected Areas”, worth 1.5 billion Japanese Yen or approximately 13.6 million USD.2. This Grant Aid, in form of budget support to the Ministry of Education, will contribute to the reconstruction and rehabilitation of schools in the areas affected by the floods and landslides since July this year, thus improve the education environment for the students which lead to speedy rehabilitation of the communities.
3. This assistance is part of the planned support totaling approximately 5 billion Japanese Yen that the Government of Japan recently announced for the recovery and rehabilitation in the education sector in the flood affected areas.
