The Japanese Government, under its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme, has granted US$127,142 for a humanitarian assistance program “The Project for Construction of Nyaung Shwe No.2 Post Primary School in Nyaung Shwe Township, Shan State”.

The handover ceremony of the project took place in Nyaung Shwe Township, Shan State on 1st December 2015. The students in Nyaung Shwe No.2 Post Primary School studied in congested classrooms. There were 60 students in one classroom on average. Under such circumstances, the Japanese Government, with its GGP scheme, provided funding for construction of a two-storey R.C.C building with 6 classrooms and full furniture. The project will benefit 390 students of the school.

The Government of Japan has assisted 734 various grass-roots projects in Myanmar under the GGP scheme since 1993; the number consisting of 333 education projects, 192 healthcare projects, 138 public welfare and environment projects, 36 infrastructure projects and 35 other projects. It is anticipated that these assistances will further strengthen the existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
