
Mr. Ichiro MARUYAMA, Charge d’ Affaires of the Embassy of Japan, and Chairmen of the Committees from the Regions concerned, signed the grant contracts for five projects today. Under these contracts, Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme will provide a total of US$383,457 as below:
1. The Project for Construction of Kyauk Kar Village Basic Education Post Primary School in Kalay Township, Sagaing Region (US$78,380);
2. The Project for Construction of Sedaw Village Basic Education Branch Middle School in Pwint Phyu Township, Magway Region (US$51,201);
3. The Project for Construction of Taw La Tha Village Basic Education Middle School in Letpadan Township, Bago Region (US$98,540);
4. The Project for Construction of Tha Yet Taw Village Basic Education Branch Middle School in Min Hla Township, Bago Region (US$83,793); and
5. The Project for Construction of Hta Naung Gone Village Basic Education Branch High School in Pwint Phyu Township, Magway Region (US$71,543).
One building in Kyauk Kar Village Basic Education Post Primary School in Kalay Township, Sagaing Region was washed away due to the flood which occurred in July, 2015. Since there are not enough classrooms, students are studying in a building that is designated as being dangerous by the Ministry of Education, and another building that is still under construction. Under such conditions, the Japanese Government will support a two-storey R.C.C building with 4 classrooms and full furniture. The project will benefit 164 students of the school.
One building in Sedaw Village Basic Education Branch Middle School in Pwint Phyu Township, Magway Region collapsed due to the flood which occurred in July 2015. As a result, the students from Grade 1 to Grade 4 are studying in the monastic building located near the school. Under such conditions, the Japanese Government will support a one-storey R.C.C building with three classrooms and full furniture. The project will benefit 203 students of the school.
Lack of classrooms has been a problem for Taw La Tha Village Basic Education Middle School in Letpadan Township, Bago Region. One of their school buildings collapsed due to the flood which occurred in July 2015. Students’ desks and benches became unusable after they were immersed in the flooded water for a long time. Moreover, the bamboo bridge crossing a drain between the road and the school was destroyed by the flood. Under such conditions, the Japanese Government will support a one-storey R.C.C building with 5 classrooms, full furniture, and one R.C.C bridge. The project will benefit 369 students of the school.
One of the two buildings in Tha Yet Taw Village Basic Education Branch Middle School in Min Hla Township, Bago Region partially collapsed due to the flood which occurred in July, 2015. The students have been studying in congested classrooms after the above incident. Moreover, four lavatories were destroyed due to the flood. Under such conditions, the Japanese Government will support a one-storey R.C.C building with four classrooms, full furniture, walkway and lavatories. The project will benefit 194 students of the school.
The school buildings in Hta Naung Gone Village Basic Education Branch High School in Pwint Phyu Township, Magway Region cannot fulfill classroom needs of the increasing students. One school building collapsed due to the flood which occurred in July 2015. Under such conditions, the Japanese Government will support a one-storey R.C.C building with four classrooms with full furniture. The project will benefit 728 students of the school.
The Government of Japan has assisted 743 various grass-roots projects in Myanmar under the GGP scheme since 1993; the number consisting of 341 education projects, 193 healthcare projects, 138 public welfare and environment projects, 36 infrastructure projects and 35 other projects. It is anticipated that these assistances will further strengthen the existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
