The Japanese Government, under its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme, has granted US$228,775 for a humanitarian assistance program “The Project for Construction of Concrete Jetty at Aung Bar Village in Kaw Taung Township, Taninthayi Region”.
The handover ceremony of the project took place in Aung Bar Village, Kaw Taung Township, Taninthayi Region on 16th December 2015. Mr. Kazuyoshi SUZUKI, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Japan, U Soe Myint Thein, Kaw Taung Township Administrator, Committee Chairman, committee members of the construction project, and local residents attended the ceremony.
All the students from 14 nearby villages come to Aung Bar Village to attend high school using the jetty. Also, the villagers are using the jetty to transfer patients to hospitals or to transport agricultural and commercial products. However, the existing jetty was old and dangerous to walk on. Under such conditions, the Government of Japan supported constriction of a 91-meter-long Concrete Jetty at Aung Bar Village. The project will benefit 6,183 people of the area.
The Government of Japan has assisted 734 various grass-roots projects in Myanmar under the GGP scheme since 1993: the number consisting of 333 education projects, 192 healthcare projects, 138 public welfare and environment projects, 36 infrastructure projects and 35 other projects. It is anticipated that these assistances will further strengthen the existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
