
Mr. Ichiro MARUYAMA, Minister-Counsellor / Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Japan, and Chairpersons of the Committees from the Regions concerned, signed the grant contracts for five projects today. Under these contracts, Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme will provide a total of US$556,129 as below:
1. The Project for Construction of Nan Chaung Village Basic Education Branch Middle School in Kalay Township, Sagaing Region (US$ 137,984);2. The Project for Construction of Htan Pin Gone Village Basic Education Branch Middle School in Minhla Township, Bago Region (US$94,025);
3. The Project for Construction of Pyintar Village Basic Education Branch Middle School in Gangaw Township, Magway Region (US$125,825);
4. The Project for Construction of Htomar Village Basic Education Branch High School in Kalay Township, Sagaing Region (US$ 96,615); and
5. The Project for Construction of Chaung Thone Kwa Village Basic Education Primary School in Letpadan Township, Bago Region (US$101,680);
Two school buildings in Nan Chaung Village Basic Education Branch Middle School were affected by the flood which occurred in July 2015. Because of the floodwater, the basement of buildings and wooden poles have been decayed, and school furniture have been damaged. Under such circumstances, the Japanese Government will support construction of a two-storey R.C.C building with 10 classrooms and full furniture. The project will benefit 165 students of the school.
Htan Pin Gone Village Basic Education Branch Middle School has three buildings. In July 2015, the floodwater rose up to 5.5 feet in the school compound which damaged school buildings and furniture. Under such circumstances, the Japanese Government will support construction of a one-storey R.C.C building with 6 classrooms, full furniture and lavatories. The project will benefit 295 students of the school.
Since Pyintar Village Basic Education Branch Middle School is located on the bank of Myit Thar River, the school had long been facing the threat of floods. Due to the huge landslide caused by the flood in July 2015, the school has to move to a higher ground far away from its original place. Under such circumstances, the Japanese Government will support construction of a two-storey R.C.C building with 10 classrooms, full furniture and lavatories. The project will benefit 157 students of the school.
Htomar Village Basic Education Branch High School was affected by the flood in July 2015. Because of the floodwater, the basement of the school building was washed away and existing furniture was seriously damaged. Under such circumstances, the Japanese Government will support construction of a one-storey R.C.C building with 6 classrooms, furniture and lavatories. The project will benefit 781 students of the school.
Chaung Thone Kwa Village Basic Education Primary School has only one wooden school building, which was affected by the flood in July 2015. Due to the flood, the school was damaged, and is not in a safe condition for students. Under such circumstances, the Japanese Government will support construction of a one-storey R.C.C building with 5 classrooms, full furniture, lavatories and walkway. The project will benefit 193 students of the school.
The Government of Japan has assisted 760 various grass-roots projects in Myanmar under the GGP scheme since 1993; the number consisting of 356 education projects, 195 healthcare projects, 138 public welfare and environment projects, 36 infrastructure projects and 35 other projects. It is anticipated that these assistances will further strengthen the existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
