June 20, 2016

The Japanese Government, under its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme, has granted US$99,271 for “The Project for Construction of Min Ywa High School in Thanatpin Township, Bago Region”.

The handover ceremony of the project took place in Thanatpin Township, Bago Region on 16th June 2016. Mr. Hideaki HIGASHI, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Japan, U Myint Oo, Pyitthu Hluttaw Representative of Thanatpin Township, Daw Myint Myint Than, Director of Bago Region Education Department, Committee Chairman, committee members of the construction project, and local residents attended the ceremony.

There were no sufficient classrooms to accommodate increasing number of students in Min Ywa High School and some students had to study in an overcrowded classroom. Under such circumstances, the Japanese Government, under its GGP scheme, has provided funding for construction of a two-storey R.C.C building with 4 classrooms with full furniture. 813 students of the school will benefit from this project.

The Government of Japan has assisted 774 various grass-roots projects in Myanmar under the GGP scheme since 1993: the number consisting of 367 education projects, 196 healthcare projects, 138 public welfare and environment projects, 38 infrastructure projects and 35 other projects. It is anticipated that these assistances will further strengthen the existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
