The Japanese Government, under its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme, has granted US$327,320 for “The Project for Construction of Mindat Basic Education Branch High School in Mindat Township, Chin State”.
The handover ceremony of the project took place in Mindat Township, Chin State on 17th June 2016. Mr. Masahiro FUJIKAWA, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Japan, U Nay Lin Aung, Chin State Pyitthu Hluttaw Representative, U Aung Zaw Win, Mindat Township Education Officer, Committee Chairman, committee members of the construction project, and local residents attended the ceremony.
Due to the insufficient number of classrooms in Mindat Basic Education Branch High School, some students had to walk for over 1 hour to attend a neighboring high school. Under such circumstances, the Japanese Government, under its GGP scheme, has provided funding for construction of a two-storey R.C.C building with 10 classrooms, lavatories and full furniture. The project will benefit 898 students of the school.
The Government of Japan has assisted 774 various grass-roots projects in Myanmar under the GGP scheme since 1993: the number consisting of 367 education projects, 196 healthcare projects, 138 public welfare and environment projects, 38 infrastructure projects and 35 other projects. It is anticipated that these assistances will further strengthen the existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
