
On 26 August, the Japanese Government provided emergency relief goods including blankets, plastic sheets and jerry cans through Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to Myanmar.
The relief goods are 2,000 blankets, 100 roles of plastic sheet and 1006 jerry cans, worth approximately 80,000 USD.
The handing over ceremony was held at natural disaster management center of Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement in Yangon. Mr. Ichiro MARUYAMA, Minister-Counsellor of the Embassy of Japan in Myanmar and Mr. Akihito SANJO, Senior Representative of JICA Myanmar Office attended.
Mr. Maruyama said, “when Mr. Hiroto IZUMI, Special Advisor to the Prime Minister, met with State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, he mentioned on this relief assistance. Please help bring these relief goods to the affected people as soon as possible.” U Win Shwe, Director of the Ministry appreciated the assistance on behalf of Myanmar government.
In Myanmar, due to the floods caused by heavy rain since the early beginning of July, at least 9 dead and 480,000 people were affected.
