H.E. Mr. Tateshi HIGUCHI, Ambassador of Japan to Myanmar, and a Chairperson of the school building Committee signed the grant contract for the Project for Construction of Pin Laung Village Basic Education Primary School in Kanpetlet Township, Chin State today. Under the contract, Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme will provide US$ 135,930 as follows: The project will assist the one out of 493 flood affected schools requested by the Myanmar Government to the Japanese Government for the reconstruction and rehabilitation. The existing school building in Pin Laung Village Basic Education Primary School, was completely collapsed due to the cyclone occurred in August, 2015. Since then, the students have been struggling to study in a temporary classroom which is built with used timber and is not equipped well for study. In order to address this challenge, the Japanese Government will support construction of a two storey Reinforced Concrete Construction (R.C.C) building with 4 classrooms with full furniture, toilets and water supply. The project will benefit 44 students and 4 teachers of the school. The Government of Japan has assisted 779 various grass-roots projects in Myanmar under the GGP scheme since 1993: the number consisting of 371 education projects, 196 healthcare projects, 138 public welfare and environment projects, 39 infrastructure projects and 35 other projects. It is anticipated that these assistances will further strengthen the existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
