The Japanese Government, under its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme, has granted US$383,931 for
1) The Project for Construction of Tong Zan Basic Education High School in Tong Zan Township, Chin State (US$271,893) and
2) The Project for Construction of Rural Health Center in Ann Lant Village, Tiddim Township, Chin State (US$112,038).
The handover ceremonies of the projects took place in Tong Zan Township and Tiddim Township on 10th December 2016 respectively. Mr.Toshimichi KOGA, First Secretary of the Embassy of Japan, U Pau Lung Meng Thang, Social Welfare Minister of Chin State, Committee Chairpersons, committee members of the construction projects, and local residents attended the ceremonies.
Tong Zan Basic Education High School is the only one high school in Tong Zan Township and the number of students has been increasing year by year. Although the wooden poles and walls of the existing building No.1 built in 1962, were decayed and the building is nearly collapsed, many students were studying in this existing building due to the insufficient number of classrooms. To tackle this issue, the Japanese Government provided funding for construction of a two-storey Reinforced Concrete Construction (R.C.C.) building with full furniture and lavatories. The project will benefit 1,244 students of the school.
The wooden Rural Health Center (RHC) building in Ann Lant Village was seriously deteriorated and decayed since it had been used from 1969. Moreover, as the Center faced the lack of staff quarters, medical storage, delivery rooms as well as medical equipment, it became dysfunctional. To address this issue, the Japanese Government provided funding for construction of a one-storey R.C.C RHC building and a staff quarter with full furniture and 18 items of medical equipment. The project will benefit 2,646 residents of 6 villages.
The Government of Japan has assisted 801 various grass-roots projects in Myanmar under the GGP scheme since 1993: the number consisting of 391 education projects, 198 healthcare projects, 138 public welfare and environment projects, 41 infrastructure projects and 35 other projects. It is anticipated that these assistances will further strengthen the existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
