JAPAN GRANTS US$193,453 FOR A RURAL HEALTH CENTER IN KAYAH STATE
December 12, 2016

The Japanese Government, under its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme, has granted US$193,453 for “The Project for Construction of Rural Health Center in Kaykaw Village, Pruso Township, Kayah State.”

The handover ceremony of the project took place in Pruso Township on 12th December 2016. Mr. Keita IWASE, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Japan, U L Phaung Sho, Kayah State Chief Minister, U Preh Phar, Committee Chairman, committee members of the construction project, and local residents attended the ceremony.

As there was no Rural Health Center (RHC) in Kaykaw Village, a building in the church compound had been temporary used for years. Because the center had no partition in the building, not only patients’ treatments but also delivery facilities could not be provided. Moreover, the center was not well equipped to treat patients. In order to solve these issues, the Japanese Government provided funding for construction of a one-storey Reinforced Concrete Construction (R.C.C) RHC building, a staff quarter with full furniture and 18 items of medical equipment. The project will benefit 2,310 residents of 10 villages.

The Government of Japan has assisted 797 various grass-roots projects in Myanmar under the GGP scheme since 1993: the number consisting of 387 education projects, 197 healthcare projects, 138 public welfare and environment projects, 40 infrastructure projects and 35 other projects. It is anticipated that these assistances will further strengthen the existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
