JAPAN HANDS OVER A ROAD TO YWA TAHAR KONE VILLAGE IN AYEYARWADY REGION

The handover ceremony of the Project for Upgrading of Ywar Thar Kone Village Road in Kyaunggon Township, Ayeyarwady Region (US$102,023) took place on 3rd March, 2017.

The ceremony was attended by Mr. Keita IWASE, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Japan, U Thein Tun, Speaker of Pyithu Hluttaw for Kyounggone Township, U Khin Maung Zaw ,DRD Head of Department from Kyaunggone Township, U Aung Kyaw Tun , Assistant Township Administrator of Kyaunggone Township, Committee Chairperson, committee members of the construction projects, and local residents.

An earthen road in Ywar Thar Kone Village used to have several difficulties in terms of transporting goods, accessing public facilities such as schools, hospitals and local markets. As the road was not paved and located on a low land along the river, it was often flooded in the rainy season moreover became inaccessible. The villagers had been attempting hard repairing the road, however, the issues could not have been resolved due to the shortage of funds. In order to tackle this challenge, the Government of Japan provided fund for the construction of a 1.4 kilometers-long road with six Reinforced Concrete Construction pipe culverts. The project will benefit 2,435 people of the surrounding 5 villages and help improving the logistics and local economic environments in the region.

The Government of Japan has assisted 811 various grass-roots projects in Myanmar under the GGP scheme since 1993: the number consisting of 397 education projects, 198 healthcare projects, 138 public welfare and environment projects, 43 infrastructure projects and 35 other projects. It is anticipated that these assistances will further strengthen the existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
