The handover ceremony of the Project for Bridge Construction of Ket Kyi Seik Village in Kyaukkyi Township, Bago Region (US$181,692) took place on May 11th, 2017.
The ceremony was attended by Mr. Keita IWASE, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Japan, Committee Chairperson, committee members of the construction projects, and local residents.
Due to the heavy use and deterioration of Ket Kyi Seik Bridge, villagers had been having hard times over years in accessing the nearest Kyaukkyi Town where schools, hospitals and local markets locate. The bridge was also not durable enough when the water level of the river increased, and it had been risky for the people to cross at that time. To solve the issues, the Government of Japan provided the grant for the construction of a 136-meter long Reinforced Concrete Construction (R.C.C.) Bridge. The project will benefit a total of 6,300 people of 5 surrounding villages and improve the transport access to educational, health care and social facilities in the region.
The Government of Japan has assisted 823 various grass-roots projects in Myanmar under the GGP scheme since 1993: the number consisting of 400 education projects, 199 healthcare projects, 139 public welfare and environment projects, 50 infrastructure projects and 35 other projects. It is anticipated that these assistances will further strengthen the existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
