The Japanese Government, under its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme, has granted US$334,902 for
1) The Project for Extension of Pin Baw Village Station Hospital in Mogaung Township, Kachin State (US$ 103,825); and
2) The Project for Construction of Pin He Village Basic Education Branch Middle School in Mohnyin Township, Kachin State (US$ 231,077).
The handover ceremonies of the projects above took place in Mogaung Township and Mohnyin Township on 24th and 25th May 2017, respectively. Mr. Hideaki HIGASHI, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Japan, Daw Mya Thwae San, Member of Kachin State Hluttaw, Committee Chairpersons, committee members of the construction projects, and local residents attended the ceremonies.
As Pin Baw Village Station Hospital had been facing the lack of patient rooms, some of the patients had been laid on benches at the corridor. Moreover, some female patients had been staying at patient rooms for men. In order to solve these problems, the Government of Japanese has provided funding for construction of a one-storey Reinforced Concrete Construction (R.C.C.) building with furniture. The project will benefit 128,743 residents of 20 villages.
Although two school buildings in Pin He Village Basic Education Branch Middle School had been seriously decayed, students there had been studying under dangerous conditions. To tackle this issue, the Government of Japanese has provided funding for construction of a two-storey R.C.C. school building with 14 classrooms, full furniture and 8 lavatories. The project will benefit 603 students of the school.
The Government of Japan has assisted 823 various grass-roots projects in Myanmar under the GGP scheme since 1993: the number consisting of 400 education projects, 199 healthcare projects, 139 public welfare and environment projects, 50 infrastructure projects and 35 other projects. It is anticipated that these assistances will further strengthen the existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
