3) The Project for Construction of Ma Yan Gwa Village Basic Education Middle School in Kyaiklat Township, Ayeyarwady Region (US$ 123,222).

The handover ceremonies of three schools for above-mentioned projects took place in Pantanaw, Mawlamyinegyun and Kyaiklat Townships on 24 and 25 January 2019. Ms. Yukiko OZEKI, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Japan, U Win Hlaing, Ayeyarwady Region Hluttaw elected representative for Kyaiklat Constituency (2), committee chairpersons, committee members of the construction projects, and local residents attended the ceremonies.

There were four school buildings in Myit Wa Village Basic Education Branch High School. However, Building No.1 and a temporary hut seriously deteriorated and there were many cracks on the wall and big gaps between bricks. Therefore, students were exposed to rain and wind during their studies. In addition, over 90 students had to study in one classroom in Building No.3. In order to provide an appropriate educational environment, the Government of Japan, under its GGP scheme, has provided funding for construction of a two-storey reinforced concrete building with 8 classrooms and full furniture. The project benefits 667 students of the school.

One of the school buildings in Kyun Gyi Village Basic Education Middle School was hall-type classroom. Therefore, the students of five grades had to share space and could not concentrate on their studies. In order to provide a proper learning environment, the Government of Japan, under its GGP scheme, has provided funding for construction of a one-storey reinforced concrete building with 4 classrooms, full furniture, lavatories and water supply. The project benefits 243 students of the school.

Similarly, the students in Ma Yan Gwa Village Basic Education Middle School had to study in two decayed school buildings which were constructed in 1964 and 1980 respectively. These buildings were hall-type classrooms and the students of three grades had to study in the same space in each building. In order to secure an appropriate educational environment, the Government of Japan, under its GGP scheme, has provided funding for construction of a two-storey reinforced concrete building with 6 classrooms and full furniture. The project benefits 382 students of the school.

The Government of Japan has assisted 883 various grass-roots projects in Myanmar under the GGP scheme since 1993: the number consisting of 453 education projects, 200 healthcare projects, 140 public welfare and environment projects, 55 infrastructure projects and 35 other projects. It is expected that these assistances will further strengthen the existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
