25 April 2019

The Government of Japan, under its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme, has granted US $202,705 for the Project for Construction of No.3 Basic Education High School in Bamaw Township, Kachin State.

The handover ceremony of a school for the above-mentioned project took place in Bamaw Township, Kachin State on 22 April 2019. Ms. Ayano SUZUKI, Third Secretary of the Embassy of Japan, U Tun Tin, Speaker of Hluttaw, U Aung Thein, Pyithu Hluttaw elected representative for Bhamo Constituency, Kachin State, Col Soe Hlaing, Deputy Commander of Military Operation Command, committee chairperson, committee members of the construction project and local residents attended the ceremony.

No.3 Basic Education High School had eight school buildings. However, five out of them were constructed in 1949 and were seriously decaying. Due to lack of proper school buildings, students had to study in these buildings which the Principal requested permission from the Ministry of Education to demolish. In order to secure a safe learning environment, the Government of Japan provided assistance for construction of a two-storey reinforced concrete building with 10 classrooms and full furniture. The project will benefit 1,202 students attending the school.

The Government of Japan has assisted 904 grass-roots projects, including 467 education projects, 200 healthcare projects, 140 public welfare and environment projects, 61 infrastructure projects and 36 others in Myanmar under the GGP scheme since 1993. This assistance is expected to further strengthen the existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
