CONSTRUCTION OF A SCHOOL UNDER JAPANESE GRANT ASSISTANCE IN AYEYARWADY REGION COMPLETED
5 June 2019

The Government of Japan, under its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme, has granted US $87,991 for the Project for Construction of Bon Kyaw Monastic Primary School in Ngaputaw Township, Ayeyarwady Region.

The handover ceremony of the new school building for the project took place in Ngaputaw Township, Ayeyarwady Region on 4 June 2019. Mr. Yosuke TANAKA, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Japan, U Soe Thein, Ayeyarwady Region Hluttaw elected Representative for Ngapudaw Constituency No.1, chairperson and members of the Construction Project Committee, and local residents attended the ceremony.

Bon Kyaw Monastic Primary School has a school building with two classrooms but due to the lack of space and increase in the number of students, they used the religious building as temporary classrooms. However, all the students had to study in the main building during religious ceremonies or special occasions when the religious building becomes unavailable. In order to secure an appropriate learning environment, the Government of Japan provided assistance for the construction of a two-story reinforced concrete building with 6 classrooms, a store and full furniture. The project will benefit 279 students attending the school.

The Government of Japan has assisted 904 grass-roots projects, including 467 education projects, 200 healthcare projects, 140 public welfare and environment projects, 61 infrastructure projects and 36 others in Myanmar under the GGP scheme since 1993. This assistance is expected to further strengthen the existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar.
