The handover ceremonies of four schools for the above projects took place in Kalay and Kalewa Townships in Sagaing Region on 19, 20 and 21 June 2019 respectively. Mr. Wataru Suzuki, First Secretary of the Embassy of Japan, U Lar Htaung Htan, Minister for Chin Ethnic Affairs of Sagaing Region, U Ko Ko Naing, Amyotha Hluttaw elected representative for constituency No.8 of Sagaing Region, U Than Tun Myint, Pyithu Hluttaw elected representative for Kalewa constituency, Sagaing Region, chairpersons and members of the construction committee and local residents attended the ceremonies.

As the previous school building of No.2 Ward Basic Education Post Primary School was constructed by the local residents, the size of each classroom was smaller than that specified by the government. Therefore, over 60 students were studying in a congested classroom. In order to solve the problem, the Government of Japan provided assistance for construction of a two-story reinforced concrete building with six classrooms and full furniture. The project will benefit 316 students attending the school.

At Kyarinn Village Basic Education Middle School, some of the classrooms were not able to be used due to the damage from flood in 2015. Therefore, over 70 students were studying in one classroom and they were not able to concentrate on their studies because of the congestion. In order to provide an appropriate educational environment, the Government of Japan provided assistance for construction of a two-story reinforced concrete building with eight classrooms and full furniture. The project will benefit 572 students attending the school.

Similarly, Si Thar Village Basic Education Post Primary School was hit by the flood in 2015, and one of the school buildings had been submerged for 9 days and seriously deteriorated. However all the students were still studying there, since the villagers could not afford to build a new school building. In order to secure a safe learning environment, the Government of Japan provided assistance for construction of a two-story reinforced concrete building with six classrooms and full furniture. The project will benefit 125 students attending the school.

The school building of Thar Yar Village Basic Education Branch Middle School almost collapsed and it was reinforced with timbers because the pillars seriously decayed. However students were studying there due to the lack of an alternative. Moreover, as the number of students was increasing, over 60 students had to study in one classroom, and the school could not accept the enrollment of new G6 and G7 students. In order to tackle the issue, the Government of Japan provided assistance for construction of a two-story reinforced concrete building with eight classrooms and full furniture. The project will benefit 542 students attending the school.
