Announcement Concerning the MRTV Broadcast on March 8

On March 8, in Nay Pyi Taw, Ambassador Ichiro Maruyama conveyed Japan’s position regarding the situation in Myanmar to Foreign Minister U Wanna Maung Lwin.

Ambassador Maruyama directly expressed a grave concern on the situation in Myanmar after the state of emergency was declared on February 1. Ambassador Maruyama strongly urged to stop resorting to violence against civilians by all means, immediately release those who are detained including State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, and swiftly restore Myanmar’s democratic political system.

In response, the Myanmar side explained their position.

The Government of Japan continues to strongly urge the Myanmar military to immediately stop resorting to violence against civilians, release those who are detained and swiftly restore Myanmar's democratic political system.
