
JAPAN’S GRASS-ROOTS ASSISTANCE FOR DAIK U MIDDLE SCHOOL

The Government of Japan, under its Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) Scheme, has extended the assistance totaling US$ 100,544 for one humanitarian assistance program entitled:-
- “The Project for Construction of Kyaiksakaw Village Basic Education Branch Middle School in Daik U Township, Bago Region”
The hand-over and opening ceremony of this project was held in Kyaiksakaw Village, Daik U Township, Bago Region on 15th July 2014. Ms. Fumie TOKUNAGA, Third Secretary of the Embassy of Japan,U Ko Htay, Representative for Bago Region Hluttaw, Deputy Director of Bago Distrinct Education Department, Daik U Township Administrator, teachers and students, committee chairman and committee members of the project and local residents attended this ceremony.
902 students at this Kyaiksakaw Village Basic Education Middle School in Daik U Township, Bago Region will directly benefit from the improved learning environment including new school buildings with necessary furniture and toilets provided by Japanese Government’s GGP scheme.It is expected that this assistance will provide a better learning environment for the students in Kyaiksakaw Village, Daik U Township, Bago Region.
Japan has conducted 688 various grass-roots projects in Myanmar under this GGP scheme since 1993. Among them, 311 education projects, 175 healthcare projects, 136 public welfare and environment projects, 31 infrastructure projects and 35 other projects are included. It is expected that these assistances will further strengthen existing friendly relations between Japan and Myanmar, which marks its 60 years anniversary of diplomatic relations this year.
