Embassy of Japan in Myanmar Holds Online Follow-up Meeting for JET Programme Participants

On Sunday, August 30, 2026, the Embassy of Japan in Myanmar held an online follow-up meeting for Coordinators for International Relations (CIRs) currently or formerly dispatched to local governments in Japan through the JET Programme (the Japan Exchange and Teaching Programme).
The meeting was organized to give past and current JET Programme participants an opportunity to report on their activities and to exchange views toward building a network among participants.
At the opening of the meeting, Mr. Yoshitake, Chargé d'Affaires ad interim, delivered remarks expressing hope that the JET Programme would further deepen mutual understanding between Japan and Myanmar.
Following the opening remarks, a total of five past and current JET Programme participants reported on their activities in their respective host communities. Ms. Chaw Thandar Htoo, who was dispatched to Higashikawa Town, Hokkaido from 2019 to 2023, looked back on her time as a participant. Among the current participants, Ms. Nann Mo Mo Zin (Higashikawa Town, Hokkaido, since 2023), Ms. Sandar Myint (Osaki Town, Kagoshima Prefecture, since 2024), and Mr. Ye Phone Khant Aung (Hamatonbetsu Town, Hokkaido, since 2024) each reported on their activities. As Ms. Ohnmar Myint (Kinko Town, Kagoshima Prefecture, since 2025) was unable to join online on the day, a video message she had prepared in advance was shown instead.
In the second half of the meeting, participants engaged in an active exchange of views aimed at building a network among JET Programme alumni, discussing future forms of exchange and ways to share information.
The Embassy of Japan in Myanmar will continue to support people-to-people exchange between Japan and Myanmar through the JET Programme and to help participants build their network.
